The Custom Design Process:
- Initial Consultation: To survey the site, discuss client's goals and site issues and offer suggestions. A proposal with estimated fees is prepared and submitted.
- Preparation: Several visits may take place to measure and photograph the site, as well as share ideas/books with client as needed. A birds-eye-view scaled base plan is then prepared to facilitate subsequent drawings.
- Preliminary or Concept Plan(s): One or two scaled, rough preliminary plans are prepared, which show basic hardscape, planted areas and paths. Any necessary changes may be made before proceeding to the final planting plan.
- Master Plan: Following Preliminary Plan approval, the last phase results in the production of a hand-drawn final planting plan or master plan, suitable for installation by clients or landscape professionals.
- Client receives two copies of the master plan, installation instructions, soil care recommendations and specific plant care guidelines to help the garden thrive.
- Followup is free of charge if under 20 minutes.

Consultations are by the hour, charged in 15-minute increments. If a custom design is desired following a consultation, the consultation fee is applied to the design fee upon signing of contract.
Second Nature Garden Design is a carbon-neutral company. There is generally no charge for travel time unless bicycle travel is inappropriate due to distance or weather.
Fees for design vary, depending on level of detail, number of meetings and extent of travel.
Upon acceptance of design contract, a retainer of 50% is required.

Second Nature Garden Design does not perform landscape installation but can suggest installers for hire separately. |
